Key Initiatives
Suicide Prevention: DoD continues to collaborate closely with VA to ensure seamless access to mental healthcare and suicide prevention resources for transitioning Service as part of the Joint Action Plan. As an active member of the PREVENTS Task Force, we are encouraging Service members, families, and Veterans to help change the conversation around suicide, reduce stigma, and strengthen support among Service members and Veterans – at home and abroad.
Federal Electronic Healthcare Record Modernization: DoD and VA are continuing to implement a single, common federal electronic health record to support more effective and efficient clinical decision-making and to provide enhanced patient care.
Individual Longitudinal Exposure Record (ILER): DoD continues to work with VA in the joint develop of the electronic Individual Longitudinal Exposure Record (ILER), which captures occupational and environmental exposures for Service members and Veterans. ILER connects individuals by time, place, event, and hazard exposure data with medical information (e.g., diagnosis, treatment, and laboratory data), across the Service member's career.
To Civilian Readiness (M2C Ready): DoD and VA are embarking on a new military to civilian transition framework that aligns the myriad of disparate transition activities under one overarching umbrella, 365-days pre-separation through 365-days post-separation, providing Service members a roadmap back to civilian life.
