Mr. Ryan A. Crotty
Mr. Ryan A. Crotty is Performing the Duties of Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (DASD) for Strategic Readiness in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (USD(P&R)). In this role, he oversees strategic readiness assessments; warfighter development, to include joint training and exercises, and individual and collective joint warfighter training and education; and readiness implications within the Department of Defense’s resourcing processes to drive readiness-informed outcomes across current and future resourcing cycles.
Most recently, he served as the Vice Director in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Readiness (ASD(R)). In this role, he was a senior advisor supporting the Assistant Secretary and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in their capacities as the principal advisors to the Secretary of Defense and the USD(P&R) for all matters related to Total Force readiness.
Prior to that, Mr. Crotty served as a Special Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of Defense, executing the operations of the immediate office in support of the Chief of Staff to drive both Secretary of Defense and Deputy Secretary of Defense priorities.
Mr. Crotty spent four years as the Chief of Staff to the ASD(R), where he managed the operations of the immediate office, and oversaw the operations of and support to the DASD for Force Readiness, DASD for Force Education and Training, and DASD for Force Safety and Occupational Health.
Mr. Crotty previously managed contingency and international programs as a Budget Analyst in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller), where he oversaw formulation of the $70 billion Overseas Contingency Operations budget, as well as development and execution of the Afghanistan Security Forces Fund and DoD security cooperation funding and authorities. Before working in the Comptroller, he directly supported the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Logistics and Material Readiness, leading research and policy efforts on sustainment issues.
