      Gender
The proportion of enlisted women is slightly higher in the Selected
Reserve than in the Active Components (17 versus 15 percent, respectively)
which is unchanged from FY 2001. Table 5.10 illustrates that there are
differences in the proportion of women across the different Reserve Components.
The component with the highest proportion of women is the USAR (25 percent),
while the ARNG has 13 percent and the USMCR, with the lowest proportion,
has 5 percent. Differences in gender composition are the result of the
types of units in the Components. For example, the ARNG and USMCR have
mainly combat units and the USAR has primarily combat support and combat
        service support units.
