Michael Coltrin
Director, Child and Youth Programs
Michael J. Coltrin is the Director of the Child and Youth Programs directorate in the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy. As director, he is responsible for programs and policies that promote military families’ well-being, readiness and quality of life. He has oversight for Defense Department programs and policies that support the availability of quality child care for military families worldwide in addition to youth development and school liaison programs. This portfolio serves 700,000 children annually at more than 300 locations worldwide.
Mr. Coltrin previously served as Deputy Assistant for Force Support and Family Programs, Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, Deputy Assistant Secretary (Reserve Affairs and Airman Readiness), Pentagon, Washington D.C. In this position, Mr. Coltrin engaged on a wide variety of Force Support and Family programs. This includes strategic plans and policies pertaining to the full range of family support and readiness programs, family advocacy, child development, spouse employment, veterans, transition assistance, MWR, commissary and exchange, and other quality of life programs affecting active, reserve, and guard military personnel, their families, Department of Air Force civilian employees, and retirees.
Mr. Coltrin has more than 30 years of experience, entering civil service in 1994 after receiving his degree in Management Information Systems from Texas Tech University. During his career, he has held a variety of assignments and leadership positions within the Air Force Services and Force Support career field at all levels within the Department while earning his Masters Degree in Management and Leadership from Websters University in 2018.
