
Ms. Nancy E. Weaver
Director, Defense Language Office

CURRENT ASSIGNMENT:
Ms. Nancy Weaver is the Director of the Defense Language Office and the DoD Senior Language Authority. As Director, Ms. Weaver advises the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Readiness), on all matters related to foreign language skills, cultural proficiency and regional expertise in the Department of Defense. Ms. Weaver develops plans and programs and evaluates changes in legislation, policies, regulations, directives and funding to assess the impact on language, cultural, and regional capabilities within the Department for Active Duty, National Guard and Reserve military personnel, civilians, and contractors. Ms. Weaver also has program management oversight of training and education programs at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center and English LanguageCenter, the Foreign Area Officer program and the Department’s language testing program. Ms. Weaver is a member of the Senior Executive Service.
PAST EXPERIENCES:
Ms. Weaver previously served as an OSD Senior Program Analyst with OSD (P&R). She was the central point of contact for senior DoD civilian and military leaders and over 90 military, civilian contractor personnel engaged in the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) 2005 review. In this assignment, she identified strategic issues and challenges and recommended courses of action to enhance jointness, improve efficiency and effectiveness and preserve Service core missions. Ms. Weaver served 30 years in the U.S. Air Force and retired as a Colonel. Her last assignment in the USAF was as the Chief, Air Force Training and Requirements where she developed USAF policy, programmed resources and resolved USAF issues for all officer and enlisted training and requirement programs. She had oversight and management of programs totaling over $13.9B dollars and tens of thousands of manpower positions covering over 300 Air Force specialty career fields through the personnel and training panel, as well as supervised the daily management of a $2.9B annual training budget.
She has received numerous awards during her career to include the OSD Exceptional Public Service Medal; the Legion of Merit Medal; the Meritorious Service Medal with five devices; USAF Senior Personnel Officer of the Year and Military Outstanding Volunteer Services Medal.
EDUCATION:
Ms. Weaver has Masters of Arts degrees in Industrial Psychology and Information Resource Management from Webster University in St Louis, Missouri. In addition, Ms. Weaver served as a National Defense Fellow at RAND and authored “Developing Aerospace Leaders for the 21st Century,” which was published by RAND in April 2001.
