Roles and Responsibilities

The primary role of the Military Deputy is to serve as the senior military advisor to the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (USD P&R) with specific emphasis on matters pertaining to the Total Force Management of our military force as it relates to readiness.

Additionally, as directed, the Military Deputy will represent the Office of the USD P&R at senior level forums and events. Additional duties include:

  • Represents USD P&R at all three star level working groups in support of Defense Management Action Group (DMAG) meetings.
  • Assist USD P&R as required for all P&R initiatives affecting future military readiness.
  • Oversees General and Flag Officer Management matters.
  • Attends Readiness Forums as required.
  • Coordinates with service representatives as required.
  • Represents USD P&R at:
    • Secretary of Defense Orders Book meetings as required.
    • Secretary of Defense Military Personnel meetings to discuss three and four star nominations.
    • Secretary of Defense Strategic Planning meetings.
    • DMAG meetings as required
    • Global Force Management Allocation Plan meetings as required.
  • Oversees the office of the Military Director for the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Service (DACOWITS).
