Mr. Ronald M. Joe serves as Acting Director of the Office of Diversity Management and Equal Opportunity.  He is responsible for the development and coordination of equal opportunity policies and programs affecting all DOD civilian employees and Service members within DOD worldwide.  He serves as the principal advisor to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Equal Opportunity) on equal opportunity and equal employment opportunity matters. He is also the Commandant and provides staff supervision of the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI) a 140-member institution located at Patrick Air Force Base, Fla., which is the premier DOD school in equal opportunity and equal employment opportunity training, education and research.

Mr. Joe was a member of and served two years as the chairperson of the Florida Council for Education and Employment of Women and Girls. He also served as a member of the Commandant of the Marine Corps Diversity Council where he frequently represented DEOMI at the Defense Equal Opportunity Council (DEOC). He has presided over numerous training seminars for a variety of Department of Defense audiences to include General and Flag Officers, enlisted personnel and civilian employees. He is a member and past Vice President of the Tallahassee Chapter of the Florida A&M University Alumni Association and a past member of the Board of Directors for the Tallahassee Marine Institute, Inc., a private non-profit corporation that works with youthful offenders. He is a former member and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Search for Common Ground, an international effort for peace, equity and diversity and was a delegate to the first “State of the World Forum” and is listed in the Office of the Secretary of Defense’s (OSD) Black Americans in Defense of our Nation.

Mr. Joe earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from Florida A&M University in 1966. He is listed in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities (1966). In 1976, he received his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Florida State University. He has also attended the Center for Philanthropy at Indiana University. His military education includes the Army Airborne School, the Armor Officer Basic and Advance courses, Joint Warfare Course (Old Sarum, England), Organizational Effectiveness Staff Officers Course, Armed Forces Staff College and the Army War College.
